The Magpie

Abraxas grossulariata (70.205)

The Magpie is a very distinctive and beautiful moth whose wing patterns can be very variable. It was once widespread and common across Warwickshire but is becomming increasingly uncommon and absent in many areas. It was once a garden pest but is now a rare visitor to most gardens despite the larval foodplants being present.

The adult moths are on the wing from late June to early September
